“Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth. Worship the LORD with gladness; come before him with joyful songs. (Psalm 100:1–2)
Worship begins when God speaks, and we respond. God says, “I have restored your fortunes” (Psalm 126:1–2). Then, we respond with laughter because we know that we don’t deserve it. God says, “I made you. You are mine. You are my people and the sheep of my pasture” (Psalm 100). Then, we respond by shouting for joy and giving Him thanks. That’s how worship works. God shows Himself to us. Then, we respond to His revelation with JOY and PRAISE.
We want to hear God speak about who He is and what He has done for us. Then, we want to call children to respond to God’s goodness and greatness with truly responsive worship. That is the motivation behind the Clap Your Hands, Stomp Your Feet VBS.
Laugh! God chooses surprising people! (1 Samuel 16)
Clap! God wins the battle! (1 Samuel 17).
Sing! God is our faithful friend! (1 Samuel 20).
Shout! God is with us! (2 Samuel 6).
Give Thanks! God shows his kindness! (2 Samuel 9)
We want to tell children about the great love of our king and then call them to respond to Him by making a joyful noise.
